Baumgartner fires Leipzig through after Seiwald's sending off
The Red Bulls fall behind early, then Nicolas Seiwald sees yellow-red. Substitute Christoph Baumgartner leads Leipzig to the next round.
Austrian internationals Christoph Baumgartner and Nicolas Seiwald were central to RB Leipzig's progression to the DFB-Pokal round of 16.
In the 2-1 victory against third-division side Rot-Weiss Essen, Seiwald had to leave the field early after a yellow-red card in the 44th minute. He saw his first yellow card for a tactical foul, and picked up the second yellow for another foul.
At this point, Leipzig was already 0-1 down after Brumme's early goal (9'). Nothing changed for a long time while they were a man down, until Christoph Baumgartner came into the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute.
The Austrian star converted a pass from Nusa for the equalizer in the 78th minute (78'), and just four minutes later, the Lower Austrian headed in completely unmarked from a free-kick cross by Raum (82').
Since his comeback a week ago, it is Baumgartner's fourth goal contribution in his third game, after a long injury layoff.
Augsburg prevails in Großaspach
In parallel, FC Augsburg defeated SG Sonnenhof Großaspach away with a score of 4-2.
Augsburg's Ribeiro scored a brace within eight minutes (13', 21'), and immediately after his second goal, Molinari reduced the deficit to 1-2 (22'). Right after the start of the second half, Celiktas even managed to equalize (46').
Two substitutes nevertheless put the Bundesliga club on the winning track: Ibrahimovic (69') and Kade (74') scored four and nine minutes after their substitutions, respectively. Austrian striker Michael Gregoritsch was brought on from the 74th minute.
