Baumgartner on Seiwald's Red: "We saved his ass"
The Austrian midfield engine saw a red card for the first time in his professional career. Match-winner Baumgartner takes the dismissal with humor.
On Tuesday, RB Leipzig managed a late comeback against third-division side Rot-Weiss Essen (to the match report>>>). Due to a yellow-red card for Austrian international Nicolas Seiwald, the Bundesliga club played one half with ten men.
Thanks to a brace from super-sub Christoph Baumgartner, who, according to his own statements after his comeback, is only at 80 percent, the Saxons still advanced to the next round.
"He thanked me"
Seiwald, who received the red card, also knew that things could have turned out differently. "He immediately ran to me, still on the pitch, and thanked me," Baumgartner said in a post-match interview with "SID".
"My goodness, I've known him for so long. It feels like he never gets a yellow card, even though he's a brutal tackler. It shouldn't happen to him, but it just does," the attacking player continued.
"This time we saved his ass, another time he'll do it for us again. All good," Baumgartner added.
