Exactly one week ago, Roger Schmidt took on his new role as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.

This Thursday, the 59-year-old was a guest at RB Leipzig. According to information from "RBlive" and "BILD", he held discussions with the management and the coaching team around Martin Demichelis at the training center on Cottaweg.

Afterwards, the former Salzburg coach (2012 to 2014) introduced himself to the employees of RB Leipzig. According to "RBlive" and "BILD", Schmidt's predecessor Jürgen Klopp had never done this, which reportedly did not go down well with the staff.

Second job in J1 League

“It was great for me to come back. I already had a very nice and special time in Salzburg back then and, of course, I always followed how things progressed with Leipzig and how Red Bull developed internationally. The years in between may have given me exactly the experience I need for this task now,” said Schmidt, who won the double in the city of Mozart in 2014.

Most recently, the German was Global Football Advisor for Japan's J.League and is reportedly still pursuing this activity, according to information from the "Salzburger Nachrichten".

Schmidt aims to connect Red Bull clubs more closely

At Red Bull, he is expected to support the club officials in further developing the Red Bull playing philosophy. "Furthermore, he is to contribute his international network in scouting top talents as well as in the education and training of coaches," states a press release from RB Leipzig.

Schmidt sees a particular focus on even closer collaboration between the various locations: "There can be synergies where we support each other and benefit from one another. Networking the clubs is one of the most important tasks of our Global Team."

As "RBlive" reports, Schmidt is also expected to be introduced in Salzburg next Thursday – at the Europa League home match against AC Milan.
