Sammer's future at BVB settled
The 59-year-old has been working as a management consultant at Borussia Dortmund since 2018. Recently, there were rumours about a possible end to his tenure.
Matthias Sammer has extended his contract as a consultant at Borussia Dortmund.
This was confirmed by BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer. "It continues. Matthias has a contract with us until 2028. We already agreed in the summer that we would continue our collaboration."
Media reports recently speculated about Sammer's departure from Dortmund. According to "Bild", Sammer is said to earn around 300,000 euros annually, but his influence is no longer as great as it was at the beginning of his tenure in 2018.
Sporting director Ole Book remains in contact with the 59-year-old, but his predecessor Sebastian Kehl relied significantly more on Sammer's expertise. Thus, the transfer activities in the summer (seven new signings for 108.5 million euros) primarily stemmed from Book's ideas and network.
In contrast, the relationship between Sammer and coach Niko Kovac is reportedly still good. A very regular exchange takes place, and the two are said to largely share the same footballing views.
