Following Loan: €50m Man Back at FC Bayern
The Portuguese temporarily returns to Munich. However, another departure is looming.
In the summer of 2024, Joao Palhinha moved from FC Fulham to FC Bayern Munich for 51 million euros.
Bayern hoped that the strong defensive midfielder would bring more stability to their team, but under the then-new coach Vincent Kompany, the Portuguese played almost no role at all.
Therefore, last summer, Palhinha went back to London on loan to Tottenham Hotspur. At the Spurs, the 30-year-old played a more significant role again.
Spurs Fail to Grant Wish
Therefore, the midfielder wanted to stay in North London beyond the loan spell.
"Who wouldn't want to play for Tottenham and stay here? I have everything here. It's like a marriage," he said.
The Spurs had a purchase option of 30 million euros, which they have now allowed to expire. Instead, they strengthened their squad with Palhinha's compatriot Mateus Fernandes for almost 100 million euros.
Back to Youth Club?
Following this, Palhinha bid farewell to Spurs fans on Instagram.
Now he is temporarily back in Munich. However, the 37-time Portuguese international is likely to continue to have a difficult time under Kompany.
According to "Sky Sports," Palhinha might be interested in a return to his youth club Sporting Lisbon. However, the capital club has already signed five midfielders this summer for almost 80 million euros.
Until further notice, the Portuguese is once again part of Bayern's squad. However, a departure before the end of the transfer window is likely.
