Will Chukwuemeka have to withdraw from ÖFB duty? Kovac fears lengthy injury layoff
After two consecutive Bundesliga starts, the ÖFB international has suffered another setback.
Bitter news for Carney Chukwuemeka and the national team.
The ÖFB international had been in a good run of form over recent weeks, free of physical issues and delivering strong performances. However, in the 2-1 victory over Elversberg, "Chuki" suffered yet another setback.
Chukwuemeka had to be substituted off injured after 34 minutes due to hamstring problems.
Kovac fears muscle tear
An official diagnosis is still pending, but head coach Niko Kovac spoke about the 23-year-old's condition at the post-match press conference: "Carney got injured today. In my opinion, he won't be traveling (to join the ÖFB team, ed.) because he had muscular issues and likely suffered a torn muscle fiber."
The layoff for such an injury is between two and six weeks.
Chukwuemeka had started Dortmund's last two Bundesliga matches. He was also named in the starting XI for the third Champions League matchday against Sabah FK.
