Super-sub "Baumi" and Leipzig comfortably defeat Augsburg
Shortly after coming on, the Austrian international scores. Adi Hütter and his Eintracht side disappoint against a promoted team.
RB Leipzig swept past FC Augsburg 5-2 despite conceding an early opener.
Austrian international Christoph Baumgartner (on from the 65th minute) scored as a substitute for Leipzig. Nicolas Seiwald and Michael Gregoritsch spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench.
Kade gave FCA the lead in the very first minute following an error by Orban. Leipzig gradually took control thereafter and eventually turned the game around with a quickfire double.
Banzuzi hit the bottom corner with a low 20-meter strike (33'). Two minutes later, Nkunku put Leipzig ahead. Before the break, David Raum made it 3-1 with a direct free-kick. Romulo put the result beyond doubt on the hour mark.
Baumgartner scores immediately after coming on
In the 65th minute, Baumgartner entered the action. The Austrian international took just one minute to find the net, staying cool in front of Dahmen after a well-worked attack (66').
Augsburg refused to give up, however, as Ogundu capped off the scoring to make it 5-2.
Hütter's side salvage point against promoted team
Eintracht Frankfurt and head coach Adi Hütter had to settle for a 2-2 draw against newly promoted SC Paderborn.
Burkardt put the "Eagles" ahead after 23 minutes, but Obermair equalized shortly before the half-time whistle.
Paderborn even briefly turned the match around, with Pieringer coolly converting a penalty (73'). Two minutes later, Baum was sent off, leaving the hosts with a man advantage for the final 15 minutes, but they let victory slip away deep into stoppage time.
Burkardt salvaged a point for the visitors in the 90th+3 minute with his second goal of the match.
This means Frankfurt's inconsistent form continues after back-to-back wins (in the league and cup) over HSV.
Bayern and Dortmund get the job done
The league's top teams both secured victories.
FC Bayern Munich won 2-1 away at Mainz 05. Kimmich (14') and Karl (57') both scored for the record champions following assists from Kane.
Mainz pulled one back through Tietz in stoppage time (90'+3), but it did nothing to change the outcome for Bayern.
Konrad Laimer played the full 90 minutes for the visitors, while Phillipp Mwene and Stefan Posch missed out for Mainz due to suspension.
At home against Elversberg, Borussia Dortmund claimed a 2-1 victory. A double from Nmecha (55', 71') put the Black and Yellows in command, but Futkeu (81') set up a tense finish with a scissor kick.
Carney Chukwuemeka was forced off injured after 33 minutes. Marcel Sabitzer spent 90 minutes on the bench. For SVE, Nicolas Kristof played the full match.
