Yanik Spalt earns a victory on his first start!

VfB Stuttgart defeat SV Werder Bremen 1-0 on matchday nine of the German Bundesliga.

ÖFB talent Spalt makes his full debut for Stuttgart's senior team against Marco Grüll (played until the 67th minute) and Marco Friedl (90 minutes). The 19-year-old plays 83 minutes and puts in a strong performance.

Early lead

The Swabians get off to an ideal start in their home match: following a pass from Prömel, Mittelstädt smashes the ball under the crossbar (7').

Overall, Stuttgart have a slight edge in the first half, though Bremen remain on equal terms for long stretches. However, clear-cut chances are still lacking for Thioune's side at this point.

Grüll forced off with injury

That changes after the break, largely driven by Grüll and Füllkrug, who have been in fine form. After 67 minutes, however, the ÖFB international has to come off injured with a calf problem.

Nevertheless, Bremen push for an equalizer. One of their best opportunities is missed on the turn by Reis (75'). Clear Werder chances remain elusive during their late push.

This brings Bremen's unbeaten run to an end after more than two months. Their last defeat came on August 30.

In the table, SVW remain in fifth place for now, while Stuttgart climb to eighth.
