Late celebration! St. Pauli beats Wolfsburg in relegation duel
The Hamburg side prevailed in front of their home crowd thanks to a late goal.
St. Pauli can celebrate their first win of the season!
The Bundesliga relegated side secured a 1-0 victory at home against fellow Bundesliga relegated side VfL Wolfsburg in the top match of the fifth round of the German second Bundesliga. The decision came late.
The two clubs engaged in an open exchange with good moments from the very first minute.
Fujita rescues St. Pauli
Ceesay (12th/27th minute) on one side and Reese (20th minute) on the other squandered the best opportunities for their teams. Austrian legionnaire Nemeth once again wore the captain's armband for Pauli and played the full match.
Both teams pushed for the winning goal in the second half as well, but the fans had to wait a long time. Shortly before the end, a decision finally came: Fujita sent the home crowd at Millerntor into raptures (88th minute).
St. Pauli climbs to eighth place with their first win of the season. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, suffered their first defeat of the season and is fifth.
