Fulham pick up a point at Aston Villa. An own goal brings the equalizer, and Affengruber even had a late chance for the win.
David Affengruber and Fulham pick up a point away at Aston Villa.
On the ninth matchday of the Premier League, the two teams drew 1-1 on Saturday evening.
Affengruber plays the full match again
The "Cottagers" once again started with the Austrian international in the lineup and began the match with determination. For a long time, the game remained balanced, but neither team could initially convert their chances into a lead; Villa even missed a penalty through John McGinn (16').
Shortly before halftime, the home team finally managed to take a 1-0 lead. Aston Villa forward Nicolas Jackson was well set up by Johan Manzambi and curled the ball with his right foot from the center of the box into the right corner (39').
Bizarre Own Goal Provides the Equalizer
After halftime, Affengruber and his teammates pushed for the equalizer. It came in the 64th minute - though with a bit of luck for Fulham. It was Zion Suzuki, Aston Villa's goalkeeper, who caused the celebration for the visitors.
After a corner from Iwobi, the Japanese keeper wanted to play it safe, letting the ball bounce downwards. However, during this attempted save, the ball crossed the goal line - a gift for Fulham.
Subsequently, both teams still wanted to score the winning goal. Affengruber also had a good chance with a header, but failed to beat the otherwise strong goalkeeper of the hosts (77').
In the end, the points were shared. Fulham thus improves to 15th place, while Aston Villa is in ninth place with the gained point.
