Chelsea plunges Man United deeper into crisis
While the "Blues" get back on track after recent struggles, the pressure mounts on Michael Carrick.
Red alert in Manchester!
The "Red Devils" suffered a 0-2 away defeat to big rivals Chelsea in the 9th round of the English Premier League.
Michael Carrick's side has now been winless in nine competitive matches. Whether this was the Englishman's last game as Manchester United's head coach will become clear in the coming days.
Good first half for United
In the opening minutes, the current situation was evident for both teams. However, as the first half wore on, a fast-paced match with numerous chances developed.
However, Bruno Fernandes (20th minute), Amad Diallo (33rd), and an offside goal from Matheus Cunha (36th) prevented the "Red Devils" from taking the lead. For the "Blues," Moises Caicedo (42nd) and Cole Palmer (44th) missed chances.
Unnecessary sending off
After the break, Morgan Rogers put the hosts ahead with a superb solo effort (50th minute). The attacker ultimately chipped Senne Lammens in goal.
Just over an hour in, Man United shot themselves in the foot again. Lisandro Martinez, who had been booked shortly before, challenged too recklessly in the box and was shown a second yellow card, resulting in a red, after a VAR check (63rd minute).
Cole Palmer converted the ensuing penalty with a touch of luck, placing it into the right corner (64th minute).
Relegation Zone Looms After This Matchday
The Carrick XI was broken, at the latest, after the sending off. In the end, it remained 2-0 to the Londoners.
The result sees Chelsea climb back into a Champions League spot, moving to fourth in the table. Man United currently sit 16th but could drop into the relegation zone by the end of this matchday.
