Official! Captain Bidstrup leaves Red Bull Salzburg
The Dane moves to France after three years in the City of Mozart.
What has been hinted at in recent days is now official. Mads Bidstrup is leaving FC Red Bull Salzburg after three years.
The 25-year-old Dane is moving to top French club Olympique Lyon, where he will receive a contract until 2031.
Bidstrup arrived in Salzburg in the summer of 2023 from FC Brentford for six million euros. Since then, he has made 116 appearances for the "Bulls" and led his team onto the pitch as captain from February 2025.
Bidstrup bids farewell
"My time in Salzburg was very special for me. Even though things didn't ultimately go as we all hoped on the sporting front, I was able to experience many unforgettable moments here, develop myself both athletically and personally, and work with great people," the Dane said in the statement.
Bidstrup also stated: "I am very grateful to the club, my teammates, the staff, and our fans for their support over the past three years, and I will always cherish this time."
Sports Director Mann speaks out
Salzburg also expressed only appreciation for the midfielder: "At the end of the past season, Mads Bidstrup and his management approached us with the wish to change clubs. Ultimately, the discussions with Mads, as well as those with Olympique Lyon, were so positive that we agreed to this transfer," said Sports Director Marcus Mann.
"We thank Mads for his commitment and his desire to make a difference here in Salzburg, and we wish him all the best at his new club!"
