FIS Plans Rule Change in Ski Jumping
During the FIS Autumn Meeting, a new system that could bring about far-reaching changes to the start order was presented.
At the FIS Autumn Meeting in Geneva, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation presented its plans for a fundamental change to the start order in ski jumping.
According to the plans, qualification could gain significantly more importance in the future. The overall World Cup standings will only be used for Friday's training and qualification.
The start order for the first main competition of the weekend (usually Saturday) will be determined by the qualification, with jumping in reverse order: For men, the 50th-place finisher in qualification will open the first round, while the qualification winner will jump last with bib number one.
Result of the First Main Competition Decisive
On combined men's and women's weekends, Sunday's qualification will be cancelled. The 50 best men and 40 best women from Saturday's competition will then be eligible to start. The exact start order will be determined by the previous day's result.
If the host country registers its national group only for Saturday, the male and female jumpers who narrowly missed qualification on Friday will move up for Sunday.
The new system is scheduled to be tested at the final of this year's Summer Grand Prix in Klingenthal at the end of October.
