The women's World Cup races scheduled for mid-March 2027 cannot take place in Narvik as planned. The FIS announced this on Monday.

The program included a downhill on March 12 and a super-G on March 13. The local organizing committee (LOC) justifies the withdrawal with an overall assessment of the risks involved in completing the facility.

Focus on 2029 Ski World Championships

"Narvik has committed to major construction work and is doing an excellent job. However, we simply cannot take any risks at a World Cup. We all agree that Narvik should better put all its efforts into a state-of-the-art facility for the Alpine Ski World Championships 2029," says FIS Race Director Peter Gerdol.

Knut-Eirik Dybdal, CEO of the local organizer "Narvik VM 2029 AS", also emphasizes the perspective with a view to the World Championships: "Withdrawing from the World Cup races changes nothing regarding our ambitions for the 2029 World Championships."

Search for a new venue

"On the contrary: it's about ensuring that our resources are used in such a way that we create the best possible conditions for a World Championship at the highest international level. We have great confidence in the project, in the facility, and in Narvik as a future World Championship host," says Dybdal.

The International Ski Federation FIS and the Norwegian Ski Association are already working on a replacement solution. The new venue is expected to be announced shortly.
