New season, new priorities.

A lot has changed for ski star Loic Meillard in recent months.

In May, the Olympic slalom champion and two-time world champion became a father to a daughter for the first time.

As the 29-year-old Swiss now announces on the "SRF" show "Sportpanorama", he will therefore be taking a step back in the upcoming racing season.

Christmas Break

"The emotions we experience in sport are something very special. But when you become a father, it's something even bigger and better."

That's why Meillard will not compete in the Super-G until at least the end of the year and will instead only participate in the technical disciplines.

This decision also has scheduling reasons. He wants to spend Christmas for the first time with his new family. "We have the night slalom in Madonna on the 23rd, then you come home on the 24th," says Meillard. "It's Christmas, and I would have to be back in Bormio on the 25th already."

Still Ambitious

In the new year, he could then enter the Super-G season precisely at the home race in Wengen (January 15).

However, the all-rounder still has goals – apart from the small parallel globe from 2020, Meillard has not yet won a "crystal globe".

He aims to achieve this milestone in slalom and giant slalom despite the special circumstances.
