Start in Sölden? Marcel Hirscher Has Made His Decision
Recently, there were rumors about the 37-year-old starting the World Cup opener. Now, there's clarity.
Marcel Hirscher (37) will not compete in the Ski World Cup opener in Sölden.
While his athletic progress is positive, the necessary training volumes are still lacking, according to the camp of the eight-time overall World Cup winner.
Time Gaps Still Too Large
During training on the Sölden race slope, the time gaps to the leaders were still too large to consider a start at this point, especially given the reduced wildcard quota of four per discipline, it was reported.
Hirscher had competed in three races in the 2024/25 season, after switching from the Austrian to the Dutch federation, using a wildcard with bib numbers above 30, before he was sidelined due to a torn cruciate ligament.
The international federation FIS has now established a new regulation.
