Former US downhill skier dies at only 41
A crash during the downhill in Lake Louise ended his skiing career in 2009.
The skiing world mourns the former speed specialist and coach Thomas ("TJ") Lanning.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced Lanning's death on Instagram. He passed away at the age of 41.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of TJ Lanning, a former U.S. Ski Team alpine racer and coach whose impact on our sport extended far beyond his competitive career," U.S. Ski & Snowboard wrote on Instagram.
Lanning achieved three top-10 finishes in the World Cup, including a ninth-place finish in the Lake Louise downhill in 2008.
A year later, the American suffered a severe crash in Lake Louise and was forced to end his career.
