Media Report: Ski World Cup Season Opener in Sölden Facing Change
As early as next season, there could be changes to the Ski World Cup opening events in Sölden. Here's what's planned:
Since 2000, the start of the World Cup winter has traditionally taken place in Sölden.
According to Jack Falkner, managing director of Bergbahnen Sölden, this should not only be maintained in the future – but even expanded to a larger scale. As Falkner told the "Kurier", in addition to the two giant slaloms, two Super-G races are also planned to be held on the Rettenbachferner in the future.
According to plans by officials in Sölden, there are set to be four races as early as the 2027/28 season, with talks already underway with the ÖSV and FIS.
In the future, the season opener in Sölden could therefore span over a week, whereas currently the rush of the ski circus is concentrated on one weekend.
This year, the World Cup season in Sölden kicks off on October 24 and 25.
