First Win of the Season! Salzburg Takes First Step Out of Crisis

EC Red Bull Salzburg secured a 6:3 victory against FTC-Telekom Budapest in the fifth round of the win2day ICE Hockey League, collecting their first three points of the season.

Salzburg had to play short-handed early after a Galipeau holding penalty (4th minute). The Hungarians mercilessly capitalized on the power play. Rasmus Heljanko scored perfectly between RBS goalie David Kickert and the post to make it 1:0 for the home team (5th minute/PP1).

However, the "Ice Bulls" also had reason to celebrate on the power play. Benjamin Nissner tied the game 1:1 with a shot from the right side into the short corner after a Mihalik holding penalty (7th minute/PP1).

Budapest in the lead again, but Salzburg recovers

Wukovits and Galipeau put Salzburg in trouble with a double minor penalty (9th minute). The Hungarians exploited this situation as well. Carter Savoie scored to give them a 2:1 lead (9th minute/PP2).

However, before the first intermission, Thomas Raffl impressively skated around FTC goalie Kristóf Nagy to equalize at 2:2 (17th minute).

Salzburg then took control in the second period. Mario Huber rewarded a period of pressure with the 3:2 goal, giving Salzburg their first lead (28th minute). Peter Schneider also extended the lead to 4:2 with a one-timer during a four-minute power play before the second intermission (39th minute).

Salzburg celebrates first win despite a comeback goal

Nevertheless, the Hungarians got back into the game in the final period. Topi Rönni scored a comeback goal on the power play after a penalty against Olivier Galipeau (49th minute/PP1).

Ultimately, Salzburg still celebrated their first league win. Dennis Robertson (59th minute/SH) and Peter Hochkofler (60th minute/SH) paved the way for Salzburg's first step out of the crisis with two empty-net goals.
