VSV suffers heavy defeat in Ljubljana

VSV clearly lost to Olimpija Ljubljana 2-6 in the fifth round of the win2day ICE Hockey League.

After the derby debacle against KAC, VSV achieved an impressive resurgence in Salzburg and traveled to Slovenia with a lot of hope. However, there was nothing for the Eagles from the Draustadt to gain against Olimpija Ljubljana.

Joshua Lawrence gave the hosts a 1-0 lead (6th minute), but VSV managed to stabilize. With the 1-1 equalizer by John Hughes (31st minute), the Villach team was back in the game and even threatened to take the lead.

Quick Double for a Decisive Lead

However, Ljubljana took the lead again when Marcel Mahkovec deflected a sharp pass from Jan Urbas into the net (36th minute).

Things got truly bitter for VSV in the 38th minute: Within 16 seconds, first Ziga Jeglic and then Jaka Sodja were freed up at the far post and only had to tap it in. At the end of the second period, Ljubljana led 4-1.

Ljubljana Leaves Nothing to Chance

Zach Boychuk extended the lead to 5-1 just as VSV was about to start a comeback (44th minute).

Joseph Cramarossa finding a gap in traffic and bringing VSV back within three goals at 5-2 (46th minute) still gave the Carinthians hope.

Luka Gomboc sealed the deal three minutes before the end. Of all people, the former KAC player scored the 6-2 goal and sealed VSV's defeat.

Ljubljana is in fourth place with nine points from five games, while VSV is tenth with six points from four matches.

Pioneers Still Without Points

Pioneers Vorarlberg lost 2-3 against Fehérvár AV19.

The game started promisingly for the Vorarlberg team. VSV returnee Guus van Nes immediately rewarded their strong start to the first period with a 1-0 goal (4th minute).

However, the lead did not last long. Pioneers goalie Alex Caffi was able to save István Terbocs' shot, but the rebound found its way to János Hari, who tapped it in for the 1-1 equalizer (6th minute).

Fehérvár Has the Last Laugh

The first period passed without further highlights; it was not until the second period that something happened on the scoreboard again.

Fehérvár defenseman Tim Campbell had to sit out two minutes for excessive roughness, and Noah Serdachny restored the Pioneers' lead on the power play (30th minute/PP).

This time, too, the Hungarians' response was not long in coming: Trevor Cheek received the puck from Hari with a backhand pass and slotted it in for the 2-2 equalizer (35th minute).

Just over a minute and a half later, Hari was involved again, once more excelling as a setup man. Justin MacPherson scored with a powerful shot from the side, giving Fehérvár the lead (36th minute).

The Pioneers could not find an equalizer before the final buzzer, and this game was also lost. Fehérvár is ninth in the standings with six points from five games, while the Pioneers are stuck in 14th place without any points.
