Odermatt on presidential change: "A bang would have been exciting"
The Swiss athlete recently expressed criticism of former president Eliasch, and now the ski star speaks out for the first time after the change at the helm.
With a new FIS president, calm finally seems to be returning to ski racing.
Liechtensteiner Alexander Opselt recently replaced Johan Eliasch at the helm. This brings relief to many.
Previously, several federations and athletes had criticized the long-serving chairman and his leadership style. This included Marco Odermatt (more on this >>>).
The Swiss ski star now speaks out after the change at the top: "In a different way, it might have been exciting if there had been a real bang and a completely new path had started, or who knows what – but this way it's definitely better," he tells "Blick".
Odermatt Against South America Races
With the change of office, ideas for new race destinations have already emerged. Most recently, there was talk of potential venues in South America before the actual start of the season, but the 28-year-old finds little appeal in this suggestion.
"If we were to start there, we would practically have to train through May, June, July. And the break during these months actually does us all a lot of good. That's why I'm not a big supporter of it," he explains.
