Slalom specialist works with Austrian on fine-tuning
With new equipment and a new coach, the ski outsider is getting the final touches in Tyrol.
After a disappointing previous season, Albert Popov aims to build on past successes again in the upcoming World Cup winter.
The 29-year-old Bulgarian is currently training with his compatriot Kalin Zlatkov on the Pitztaler Glacier. He shared several snapshots from the training camp on Instagram and wrote: "Long time no see Pitztal. Nice to be back."
The 29-year-old's connection to Austria extends beyond his current training location to include his new coach, Florian Putz. With Austrian expertise and Italian quality from Nordica, his new equipment supplier, he hopes to make the leap back into the slalom elite. In Pitztal, he is currently fine-tuning for the upcoming season.
Popov celebrated his biggest World Cup success in January 2025, when he surprisingly won the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio. Last season, he never really hit his stride.
