Neumayer falls in Genoa quarterfinals
The Salzburg native fails to live up to his billing as favorite and loses in straight sets.
Lukas Neumayer (ATP-183) had to admit defeat in the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger in Genoa.
The third-seeded Salzburg native lost to unseeded Croatian Luka Mikrut (ATP-214) with a score of 3:6, 4:6.
Neumayer got off to a perfect start, breaking Mikrut's serve in the very first game. At 3:1, the 24-year-old also had three break opportunities but couldn't convert them. Instead, the match turned: Mikrut secured a break to level at 3:3 and then followed up with another break shortly after to make it 5:3. The Croatian then served out the set.
Neumayer loses in straight sets
In the second set, Neumayer also fell behind early. After being broken to love for 0:1, the Salzburg native did find his way back into the match, securing a rebreak to level at 3:3. However, at 4:4, Mikrut managed another break before serving out for 6:4 shortly after.
Thus, Neumayer is eliminated in the Challenger quarterfinals, just as he was recently in Tulln.
