ORF Sports Reporter Unexpectedly Passed Away
The sports reporter was a long-time member of the editorial team and commented on a variety of broadcasts.
ORF sports reporter Dieter Helbig passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Vienna on Monday at the age of 61. ORF announced this on Thursday.
Helbig began his career in 1989 at the Niederösterreich regional studio. He was a long-time member of the sports editorial team and known to the public through a variety of broadcasts, contributions, and reports.
"Didi" primarily reported on Formula 1, ice hockey, winter sports, and sailing. At the 2024 Olympics in France, he commentated on the gold medals won by Valentin Bontus and Lara Vadlau/Lukas Mähr.
"The ORF sports editorial team expresses its deepest condolences to all relatives and bids farewell, with sorrow and grateful remembrance, to a colleague and friend," stated ORF.
