Neumayer Storms into Braga Quarterfinals
The Salzburg native confirms his role as favorite and confidently advances to the next round.
In the round of 16 of the ATP Challenger in Braga, Lukas Neumayer defeated Sweden's Olle Wallin (ATP #423) on Thursday with a 6-2, 6-2 score.
The Salzburg native evidently wanted to finish his workday quickly. With two breaks, he converted his third set point to 6-2 in the first set after just 29 minutes of play.
Short Work
Although the second set lasted longer, the 24-year-old played a rock-solid match. At 3-1, frustration briefly set in after an unforced error, causing his racket to momentarily fly towards the ground. Nonetheless, Neumayer routinely played out the set. After 1 hour and 14 minutes, he converted his second match point for another 6-2.
In the quarterfinals, he will face Spain's Max Alcala Gurri (ATP #138). Should he win, Neumayer would overtake Joel Schwärzler in the world rankings and become the new Austrian number three.
