Set Point Drama: Lilli Tagger Eliminated in Suzhou
With her doubles partner Tamara Korpatsch, she suffered a defeat in the Suzhou quarter-finals.
Lilli Tagger and Tamara Korpatsch were eliminated from the WTA Challenger doubles quarter-finals in Suzhou on Thursday.
They lost to the two Chinese players Zongyu Li and Wushuang Zheng 6:7 (5), 7:6 (5), and 7:10.
The first set became a complicated affair. Although Tagger and Korpatsch managed to take a 5:3 lead, they squandered a total of four set points in the next two games. The Chinese players were able to save themselves into a tie-break and converted their second set point.
Too Many Unforced Errors
The Austrian and the German started the second set with anger, quickly taking a 2:0 lead. However, the local favorites were again able to fight their way back and force a tie-break decision. Tagger and Korpatsch again earned themselves four set points, this time with a better outcome for them.
The decision came in the match tie-break. Although an interim 5:1 deficit could be made up, Li and Zheng made fewer errors in the final stages. An overhit forehand from Tagger ultimately sealed their elimination with a 10:7 score.
