After Interruption: Schwärzler Narrowly Overcomes Opening Hurdle
The weather in Villena does not prevent the Vorarlberg native from advancing to the second round of the ATP Challenger.
Joel Schwärzler wins against Felix Balshaw 6:7(1), 6:3, 7:5 at the ATP Challenger in Villena.
However, the weather temporarily disrupted play for both players in Spanish Villena. After an interruption, the match could be continued.
The first set was largely even. The decision was only made in the tie-break, where Balshaw clearly prevailed. Schwärzler only managed one point.
Schwärzler Secures Break in Second Set
In the second set, the Austrian struck back. Schwärzler secured the break to make it 3:1 and then brought the lead across the finish line to level the sets.
In the third and decisive set, neither player could initially pull away.
No break occurred until the score was 5:5, before Schwärzler struck at the crucial moment, breaking his opponent's serve to make it 6:5 and then serving out the match for the win.
In the round of 16, he will now face Britain's Jack Pinnington Jones (ATP No. 205).
