Success run continues: But Suljovic causes a stir in Basel
The Austrian is in the quarter-finals of the Swiss Darts Trophy after a victory against Ross Smith. There are now discussions about his behaviour on stage.
The Swiss Darts Trophy is turning into a success story for Mensur Suljovic!
After defeating the struggling three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen (all info >>>), the ÖDV star has now also beaten Englishman Ross Smith. In a hard-fought last-16 match, the Viennese player prevailed 6-5.
Suljovic was able to recover from a 0-2 deficit – but "the Gentle" did not always choose the fairest means. He repeatedly incited the Swiss fans to louder (booing) chants, even while his opponent was throwing. Smith visibly reacted with displeasure.
Even during Smith's match darts, the Austrian spurred on the spectators – successfully. The Englishman missed his decisive throws and Suljovic checked out 55 points for the match. In the quarter-finals, Dirk van Duijvenbode awaits the 54-year-old.
