Kraus squanders chance for next 1000 main draw
The 24-year-old from Vienna is eliminated in the final qualifying round in Wuhan.
Unfortunately, there will be no further appearance by Sinja Kraus in a WTA 1000 main draw in Wuhan.
The 24-year-old from Vienna was defeated on Sunday by fellow 24-year-old Turk Zeynep Sönmez (WTA No. 58) in the final qualifying round for the hardcourt main draw with a score of 2:6, 4:6.
Kraus dropped her serve three times in the first set, and two more times in the second set – too many to threaten the Turkish player, who is ranked 37 positions higher in the world rankings.
Kraus still guaranteed a new career-high
The Austrian thus misses out on her second WTA 1000 main draw within a few days. In Beijing, the Viennese even sensationally stormed into the round of 16.
For this reason, Kraus can look forward to a new career-high in the WTA world rankings on Monday. In the live ranking, she currently sits at No. 76; her previous career-high was No. 80.
