The British Grand Prix concluded with pure drama.

While Mercedes experiences defects (Wolff: "That mustn't break">>>), Ferrari squandered a one-two finish for Charles Leclerc's first triumph since 2024 due to an incorrect strategy call for Lewis Hamilton.

It could have actually been Max Verstappen who caught the second-placed driver in the final phase. However, he then became the trigger for the Safety Car period himself, which ultimately benefited George Russell.

Daring Strategy Pays Off

After a very early first pit stop, the Dutchman used an undercut to get past both the seven-time world champion and Russell.

It was a daring strategy that, however, seemed to pay off: After Nico Hülkenberg's retirement, Verstappen stopped a second time and rapidly closed in on Hamilton; a podium finish seemed to be assured for him.

With four laps to go, he was still six seconds behind the Silverstone record holder - before the Red Bull driver lost control of his car in "Stowe" and ultimately retired.

"Same Problem as in Austria"

In the post-race interview, the four-time champ explained that the same problem as in Austria had occurred.

"Again, the rear wing wasn't fully closed. Then you don't have the same downforce, and that's dangerous, of course," Verstappen said in the "ORF" interview after the race, adding wryly: "Lucky twice."

However, the 28-year-old was generally not satisfied with his car throughout the entire weekend and specifically spoke of problems with the balance.

Accordingly, his initial reaction over the radio after retiring was frustrated: "I'm stuck. F*** this car, f***! Unbelievable. F*** this."
