Maiden Victory! Antonelli Wins Silverstone Sprint Ahead of Hamilton
The championship leader now also claims his first sprint victory in Great Britain, beating local hero Lewis Hamilton.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli wins a Formula 1 Sprint race for the first time!
In the Silverstone Sprint, the Mercedes driver triumphs ahead of local hero Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari, +2.745). Lando Norris (+9.783) finishes third in the McLaren, ahead of George Russell (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).
Overtaken After Eight Laps
Hamilton started the 17-lap sprint from pole position. After just seven laps, challenger Antonelli was already right on the Briton's tail – and a lap later, it happened: Antonelli pulled past on the Hangar Straight, took the lead, and never relinquished it.
Max Verstappen finished sixth in his Red Bull, while Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls) also made it into the points.
Not only is this Antonelli's first Sprint victory, but he is also the youngest Sprint winner in F1 history.
