The Washington Capitals can also count on their superstar and captain Alex Ovechkin in the upcoming NHL season.
The NHL's all-time leading goal scorer extended his contract for another year, thus entering his 22nd season in Washington.
The 40-year-old will receive a base salary of one million US dollars, plus bonus payments of up to eight million dollars. The contract has an average annual value of 4.25 million US dollars.
Longest-Serving Professional in History
"I'm back! I'm healthy, I love playing hockey and fighting for wins. I'm looking forward to coming back and joining my teammates so we can fight for a playoff spot and have a chance to win," Ovechkin explains.
With his 22nd season, the Stanley Cup winner will also become the longest-serving professional in the history of sports in Washington, D.C..
