Janne Grönvall will be the new Head Coach of Pioneers Vorarlberg.

The Feldkirch-based team officially announced this on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old Finn takes over the job from his departed compatriot Johannes Nygard.

"Professionalism, Discipline and Sustainable Player Development"

Grönvall looks back on a successful career both as a player and a coach. As a defenseman, he played over 700 games in the Finnish top league, becoming Finnish champion with Tappara Tampere in 2003. Grönvall also played in the AHL, Sweden, and Germany. In 1992, he was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL Draft, and with the Finnish national team, he won, among other achievements, the silver medal at the 2001 World Championship.

As a coach, Grönvall worked for many years in the renowned junior and professional divisions of Tappara Tampere. Most recently, he gained valuable experience at the highest level as an assistant coach at Vaasan Sport in the Finnish Liiga.

"With Janne Grönvall, Pioneers Vorarlberg gain a coach who stands for professionalism, discipline, and sustainable player development. His international experience and successful work in top-tier Finnish hockey are intended to provide the team with important impetus for the upcoming season," states the ICE club's homepage.
