The best player in the world? Bayern legend makes a definitive statement
For the Frenchman, his compatriot is the clear favorite for the Ballon d'Or.
Michael Olise is seamlessly continuing his performances for the French national team at this World Cup, following his excellent displays for FC Bayern Munich.
The Frenchman has already registered six assists at the tournament in North America. With this, he has already surpassed the previous assist record at a World Cup after just the round of 16.
Now, his compatriot Willy Sagnol has offered him significant praise. "Olise is the best player in the world, far ahead of all other players," the former Bayern defender said in an interview with "Bild".
"Zidane was exactly the same"
Therefore, from Sagnol's perspective, Olise must absolutely win the Ballon d'Or: "If he doesn't get the Ballon d'Or at the end of the year, something is wrong with football."
The 58-cap French international is particularly impressed by the playing style of the English-born player and draws a comparison to one of the all-time greats.
"Olise, to put it bluntly, doesn't give a damn whether he scores, provides an assist or not. You can see that he isn't thinking about doing something for himself, but always looks at what helps the team. My former national team colleague Zinedine Zidane was exactly the same," says Sagnol, who is currently the head coach of the Georgian national team.
