If USA Wins World Cup: NASA Wants to Shoot Ball to the Moon
Christian Pulisic & Co. played impressively in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. If the USA pulls off the big coup at their home tournament, NASA is planning a curious gift.
As the winner of Group D, the USA confidently qualified for the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup and can, as the last of the three hosts, make the jump to the Round of 16 on Thursday (CEST) against Bosnia and Herzegovina (from 2 AM in the LIVE ticker>>>).
Subsequently, the team around Milan star Christian Pulisic would have to survive four more rounds to turn the big coup of triumph at their home World Cup into reality.
That chances of a surprising title win are certainly being calculated within the USA was confirmed before the tournament.
NASA Chief Plans Curious Gift
In the event of a World Cup victory, NASA chief Jared Isaacman has promised the US team a very special reward: a football on the Moon. "We will get the football there," promises the head of the US space agency NASA.
"So, there's a bit of motivation for the USA. That's the challenge," Isaacman continued.
So far, the US men's national team has never won a World Cup – a triumph for the USA would probably be one of the biggest surprises in football history.
