Herzog: Switzerland? "While we only talk about Baumgartner..."
Marc Janko and Andreas Herzog discuss CR7, referee scandals, and also pinpoint the weaknesses of Austrian football in the latest edition of "HERZERL mit JANKO".
The 2026 World Cup is already in its crucial phase.
Exactly one week after the bitter ÖFB exit in the Round of 32 against Spain, the quarter-final clashes are set to take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Kicking things off on Thursday evening is the clash between France and Morocco (from 10:00 PM in the LIVE ticker >>>).
Herzog Draws Comparison to Switzerland
In addition to the intensely contested Round of 16 matches and the upcoming quarter-finals, Andreas Herzog and Marc Janko discuss Austrian football, among other topics, in the tenth episode of their podcast "HERZERL mit JANKO". Herzog doesn't mince words.
Addressing Switzerland's progression to the quarter-finals, the former record international player draws a sobering comparison.
"Individually, they certainly have more quality in attack than we do. With Ndoye and Vargas, they have good wingers, and with Manzambi, a 20-year-old who will be transferred for 40, 50 million. (…) While we only talk about Baumgartner, the Swiss certainly have four or five such players. The Swiss have a bit more versatility than we do."
You can hear which qualities and areas in Austrian youth football, according to Herzog, need to be developed more, and why Austria shouldn't only look to Germany, in "HERZERL mit JANKO".
