As Alvarez's Replacement? Atletico Reportedly Lands Juve's Fall Guy

Atletico Madrid reportedly has a new striker on the hook. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Jonathan David's move from Juventus to Madrid is finalized.

The 26-year-old Canadian will initially join on loan. Atletico has secured a purchase option of 25 million euros. The Spanish club is also said to be covering more than half of David's annual salary.

Never Settled at Juve

For David, this marks the end of a disappointing year in Turin. Only in the summer of 2025 did the attacker move to Juventus on a free transfer from OSC Lille, after having made a splash in Ligue 1 for years.

However, he couldn't build on that success at the "Old Lady." David managed only eight goals in 47 competitive matches. Most recently, he felt the displeasure of his own fans: when he was substituted in the league match against Parma, the Canadian was booed off by the Juve supporters.

Juventus also wanted to offload the attacker due to his high salary. David reportedly earns around six million euros net per year in Turin.

As a replacement for David, the Italian record champion now has a German national team striker on their list.

Alvarez's Replacement?

In Madrid, David could now fill a big void. Julian Alvarez is considered keen to leave Atletico and had repeatedly requested a release recently – the relationship appears to be beyond repair.

The club finally gave the Argentinian the green light for a departure – but with one restriction: Atletico will not sell to a league rival.

Barca ultimately found their striker at Arsenal. The future of the Argentinian star player, however, remains uncertain.
