Alvarez contact has consequences: Federation punishes FC Barcelona
This summer, the Catalans wanted to pry Julian Alvarez away from Atletico Madrid. The club is now sanctioned for premature contact.
The transfer saga surrounding Julian Alvarez was one of the dominant topics last summer.
FC Barcelona publicly campaigned for the signing of the Argentine international and was willing to dig deep into their pockets for him. Alvarez himself also wanted to move to the Catalans and put pressure on the "Rojiblancos" after his club Atletico Madrid's rejection.
In the end, the striker remained in Madrid, where the 26-year-old had turned his own fans against him and was booed by them.
Symbolic Fine
For FC Barcelona, the pursuit of Alvarez also has consequences: Since the top club contacted Alvarez without informing Atletico Madrid in advance, the Madrilenians filed a complaint. This is because Barca would have been obligated to inform Atletico.
The Spanish federation also sees this as a rule breach and is now sanctioning FC Barcelona with a symbolic fine. According to "Mundo Deportivo", the Catalans have to pay a fine of 602 euros.
The reason is a violation of Article 133 of the federation's regulations, which governs "non-compliance with orders, instructions, agreements or statutory duties".
