Thomas Müller makes decision about future
The 37-year-old's contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps expired at the end of the year. Now, the 2014 world champion has made a contract decision.
Thomas Müller will remain with the Vancouver Whitecaps next year.
The 37-year-old has extended his contract, which was set to expire at the end of the year, for another season until the end of 2027. The MLS team announced this on Tuesday.
Thus, the former Bayern star will also be part of the so-called "Sprint Season," which will be held for the first time in MLS.
MLS Changes Match Schedule
The background is the upcoming change to the match calendar: From summer 2027, the US league will align with the European rhythm and play its season from autumn to spring.
To enable the transition, there will be a one-time, significantly shortened season starting in February 2027. Only 14 matchdays are scheduled before the playoffs begin in early May. The new MLS champion will then be crowned at the end of May.
Vancouver Currently Leads the Table
Müller's time with the Vancouver Whitecaps has been crowned with success so far; with the Canadian team, the former Bayern star made history by reaching the MLS final last season.
There, they were only stopped by Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. In 45 competitive matches for Vancouver, the 131-cap DFB international scored 19 goals and provided eleven assists.
Things are also going well for Müller and the Whitecaps in the current season: After 26 matchdays, the Canadian team leads the Western Conference table.
