Rooney Sharply Criticizes Demanded Statement

On "The United Stand" podcast, Rooney finds clear words for the behavior of his former teammate. Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo played together for Manchester United for five years.

"He's such a great player. Wasn't it the same day Messi retired from the Argentine national team? For him to then leave the Portuguese squad in this manner and subsequently release that statement is, in my view, simply wrong in every way," Rooney criticizes.

"That's Beyond Anything I Have Ever Seen"

The former English international takes particular issue with Ronaldo's handling of the coach. "To undermine his coach, his teammates, and the association in that way was completely wrong. The entire process was wrong. It wasn't nice to watch."

Rooney cannot comprehend that Ronaldo wanted to dictate what his coach should say publicly: "You can't tell a coach what to say at a press conference. That's beyond anything I've ever seen."

Rooney also has clear words regarding the possible end of Ronaldo's national team career.

"That happens to every player. Eventually, a national team career comes to an end. He's not handling it well, and it's becoming uncomfortable to watch."
