Atletico Madrid got on the scoreboard for the first time in the second round of the UEFA Champions League league phase.

After their 2-1 opening defeat against Liverpool FC, the "Rojiblancos" secured a 2-0 victory against Manchester United at the Wanda Metropolitano. The "Red Devils" have now gone five competitive matches without a win.

Atletico catches ManUnited cold

Atletico caught the traditional English club completely off guard. Baena's cross found Barrios, who somewhat luckily put the ball into the net, with only 50 seconds on the clock (1').

After initial difficulties, ManUnited created good chances to equalize, which Mbeumbo (13', 25'), Rashford (15') and Baleba (25') failed to convert. At the other end, Grimaldo's free-kick from 20 meters rattled the crossbar (27').

Shortly before halftime, the Spaniards seemingly increased their lead to 2-0, but after a VAR review, the referee ruled out Johnny's goal due to a handball by Llorente (44').

Woodwork woes on both sides

In the 55th minute, Atletico was once again unlucky when Alvarez's technically demanding volley from the left inside post bounced back into play (55').

Almost immediately at the other end, Bruno Fernandes chipped the ball over Oblak - but just wide of the post (57'). In the 70th minute, the Portuguese also hit the crossbar with a curled shot.

First red card, then 2-0

Moments later, Yoro brought down the breaking Lookman as the last man. The referee initially allowed play to continue but, after VAR consultation, decided to show a red card to the Frenchman (74').

Atletico immediately capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Lookman tapping in after Lammens had initially saved David's shot (79').

Both teams now have three points after two matchdays.

Arsenal remains flawless

Arsenal FC maintained their perfect record with a 3-0 victory against OSC Lille.

The first half was sluggish, with Özer making a crucial save against Gyökeres in injury time (45'+1). Earlier, the Lille goalkeeper had also been on hand to deny Guimaraes.

After the break, the "Gunners" converted their dominance into goals. Timber chipped Özer for the 1-0 lead (64'), breaking the deadlock. Eze (67') and Saka (71') quickly extended the lead to 3-0.

Arsenal has six points, while Lille are still waiting for their first points.

Villarreal celebrates home win

In Spain, Villarreal defeated SSC Napoli 3-1.

The Italian visitors took the lead through Rrahmani (8'), but a quickfire double turned the game on its head. Mikautadze (23') and Mourino (26') with a wonder goal scored within three minutes. Oluwaseyi sealed the win (86').

The "Yellow Submarine" got on the scoreboard for the first time after their 3-2 defeat in their opening match against Borussia Dortmund, while Napoli remains pointless.
