It's official: Carvajal signs for Getafe
The transfer of Daniel Carvajal has been a long time in the making. Now it's confirmed. The Spaniard will play for Getafe FC in the future. The salary cap posed a challenge.
A long back-and-forth in negotiations has come to an end. Daniel Carvajal signs a contract with FC Getafe until the end of the season, thus remaining in La Liga. The European champion's contract with his previous employer, Real Madrid, expired in June 2026.
League Clearance Took Time
For a long time, the league's salary cap stood in the way of the transfer. Now, however, La Liga's clearance has finally arrived. Carvajal was most recently employed by Real Madrid. However, the Spaniard had to reduce his salary demands not only due to the limited financial possibilities of his new club.
The Spanish European champion primarily wants to "contribute his experience and leadership qualities," according to a statement from FC Getafe.
A Career Full of Titles
In total, the now 34-year-old has already collected 27 trophies, including six Champions League titles and four Spanish League titles with Real Madrid.
With the national team, Carvajal won the European Championship 2024 and the Nations League 2023.
Carvajal already completed his first training session with his new teammates on Tuesday morning. The first chance for a debut will be on Monday in the league match against Rayo Vallecano.
