After a weak start to the season: Coach change at Juve?
The record champion still hasn't returned to its former strength. Now there could be another coaching change.
Almost exactly one year ago, Luciano Spalletti signed a contract with Juventus Turin until summer 2028.
The 67-year-old, who became champion with SSC Napoli in 2023, wanted to lead the record champion back into the top tier of Serie A. However, the "Old Lady" is currently far from that.
After a sixth-place finish last year, the club is currently in eighth place, eleven points behind the top duo Inter and Lazio. Most recently, they suffered a 0-2 defeat in Genoa in the league. Spalletti's coaching seat has been shaking significantly since that loss at the latest.
Three Successor Candidates
According to the Italian newspaper "La Stampa", there are already three concrete successor candidates for the coaching position. At the top of the wish list is ex-coach Antonio Conte; the 57-year-old is unattached after his departure from Naples.
From 2011 to 2013, he coached Juventus for three years, becoming champion three times during that period.
Countryman Stefano Pioli is also said to be a candidate. The 61-year-old has been jobless since his departure from Florence in November 2025. Previously, he also coached AC Milan, Inter, Lazio, and Bologna in Italy.
Will Deschamps return?
Besides the two Italians, the name of former France national team coach Didier Deschamps is also being floated. The 2018 World Cup-winning coach is said to have already signaled his readiness.
Similar to Conte, Deschamps also has a past in Turin. In the 2006/07 season, the 58-year-old managed the "Old Lady".
