Overhaul! Inter bids farewell to quartet including Sommer, Acerbi & Co.
Italy's double winners part ways with four veterans. Their expiring contracts will not be extended.
Inter Milan is initiating an overhaul this transfer summer.
As Italy's double winners announced on Tuesday, the contracts with four professionals over 34 years old, expiring on June 30, will not be extended.
Both former Bayern goalkeeper Yann Sommer, and the two central defenders Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij, as well as full-back Matteo Darmian, must leave. As "Calcio e Finanza" reports, Inter is expected to save 20 million euros per year in salary costs with these departures.
Future open for Sommer, Acerbi & Co.
According to Italian media reports, it is still unclear what's next for the four veterans. None of them has signed with a new club yet.
Sommer is being linked with Club Brugge and Ajax Amsterdam, among others, while de Vrij is reportedly on the verge of a move to Panathinaikos.
For Acerbi, much points to a stay in Italy. Possible destinations include Genoa CFC and AC Monza. Darmian is also likely to continue his career in Serie A.
