Schmid Brace! Frosinone Draw in Bergamo Spectacle
Romano Schmid scores his first two goals for the promoted side. The Austrian international registers his first-ever professional brace.
Frosinone Calcio drew 4-4 with Atalanta Bergamo away from home on the eighth matchday of the Italian Serie A in a spectacular encounter.
Austrian international Romano Schmid shone with a brace. The 42-cap international played the entire match. Florian Grillitsch remains sidelined for the promoted side due to injury.
Schmid Scores Twice in the Opening Stages
Frosinone got off to a dream start: After just a few seconds, Schmid put the visitors ahead with his first goal in the promoted side's shirt (1st minute).
Atalanta, however, quickly found an answer. Charles De Ketelaere set up Nikola Krstovic, who equalized to make it 1-1 after a counter-attack (14th minute).
But just three minutes later, Schmid struck again. After an assist from Fares Ghedjemis, the Austrian international remained cool in front of goal and put Frosinone back in front (17th minute). It was the attacking midfielder's first professional brace.
However, the lead did not last long: After a handball by Giorgio Cittadini, the referee awarded a penalty after VAR review. Ederson confidently converted to make it 2-2 (33rd minute).
Shortly before halftime, Atalanta turned the game around. Krstovic converted a cross from Davide Zappacosta to give the hosts a 3-2 lead at the break (45th minute).
Goal-filled Exchange After the Break
The goals continued to flow after the restart. Giacomo Calo equalized for Frosinone with a spectacular long-range shot to make it 3-3 (48th minute). However, the Bergamaschi's response was not long in coming: Eljif Elmas made it 4-3 just two minutes later (50th minute).
Frosinone subsequently threw everything forward and indeed managed a late equalizer through a goal from former Salzburg player Aleksa Terzic (82nd minute).
Frosinone now has 14 points and remains in sixth place in the table. Atalanta is in eleventh place with ten points.
Genoa Celebrates Important Victory in Relegation Battle
In the parallel match, CFC Genoa prevailed 1-0 against Venezia FC in a clash between two struggling sides. Mikael Egill Ellertsson scored the decisive goal with a dream long-range strike in the 25th minute.
Austrian international David Puczka came on in the 81st minute. Franz Stolz watched the entire match from the bench. Elias Havel remains sidelined for the "Rossoblu" due to injury.
Genoa thus celebrates their second win of the season and moves up to 16th place. Venezia remains at the bottom of the table.
