"Lions" without a lion: Another setback for 1860

The fallen traditional club will only play in the Regionalliga next season. Visually, to the dismay of the fans, something drastic will also change.

After the missed license and the subsequent termination of the cooperation agreement with investor Hasan Ismaik, the next setback for 1860 Munich now follows.

The cult club, commonly known as "the Lions", will have to do without its identity-forming heraldic animal, at least for the upcoming season.

No Lion for the "Lions"

Because the "Sechzger" (nickname for 1860 Munich) are not allowed to use the familiar, octagonal crest with lions in conjunction with the name "TSV 1860 München". This right belongs to "TSV München von 1860 GmbH & Co. KGaA". And this is, as is well known, in Ismaik's hands.

For the upcoming season in the Regionalliga Bayern, the club is therefore drawing on its own history and will play with the historical logo of the football department, which was used between 1899 and 1911 (see below).

According to the "Sechzger", however, this is only intended to be a temporary solution. They want to return to the familiar club crest as quickly as possible. The usage rights of Ismaik's operating company (Spielbetrebiebs-GmbH) run until 2031.
