At Borussia Mönchengladbach, coach Eugen Polanski had to leave after a poor start to the Bundesliga season with three defeats in the first three games.

Former Salzburg sporting director Rouven Schröder now has the task of finding a successor. Several names are on the list of potential Gladbach coaches, including Didi Kühbauer.

Only at Al-Ittihad since July

Now another name with an Austria connection has emerged in the rumour mill. According to "kicker", Schröder has Jens Wissing in his sights.

Schröder brought the 38-year-old German to FC Red Bull Salzburg in summer 2025 as assistant coach to Thomas Letsch. Only a few months later, Wissing left the "Bulls" at his own request.

He subsequently joined Gamba Osaka in Japan as head coach and has been coach of Saudi club Al-Ittihad since July (seven wins in ten games). On Monday, they drew 1-1 against Al-Shamal SC from Qatar in their opening match of the AFC Champions League Elite.
