Gladbach sacks coach after three matchdays
Three defeats, twelve goals conceded: Borussia Mönchengladbach pulls the plug early and parts ways with Eugen Polanski.
Borussia Mönchengladbach announced the departure of head coach Eugen Polanski on Sunday.
The "Foals" had a miserable start to the new German Bundesliga season, suffering three defeats in three games and conceding a total of twelve goals.
Gladbach thus decided to take the same step as last season. Then too, coach Gerardo Seoane had to step down after just three games and was replaced by Polanski.
In addition to Polanski, assistant coach Tobias Trulsen must also leave. The other assistant coach, Jan-Moritz Lichte, will remain, however, and will take charge of Gladbach on an interim basis for now. Lichte only joined Mönchengladbach from the Manchester City academy in the summer.
Polanski: "It hurts terribly"
"Despite a good pre-season and positive approaches, the team failed to achieve the desired results in the Bundesliga. The recent performances led to the decision to relieve Eugen of his duties with immediate effect," explained Rouven Schröder, former Salzburg and now Gladbach sporting director.
Polanski added: "Borussia Mönchengladbach was and remains my club. That's why it hurts terribly that it has come to this. We had big plans, but we couldn't implement them. I am sorry for that. I very much hope that Borussia will turn things around quickly."
Ole Werner, Horst Steffen, or Alexander Blessin are already being considered as potential successors.
