Coach Search: Ex-Coach of Austrian Trio Turns Down Gladbach
Rouven Schröder is said to have received the first rejection in his search for a new coach. Accordingly, a former Leipzig coach is not available.
Mönchengladbach's sporting director Rouven Schröder already pulled the plug on coach Eugen Polanski after just three matchdays.
With zero points from three league games and a goal difference of -9, Borussia sits in a direct relegation spot; only Hamburger SV is worse off with the same points tally and an even worse goal difference. A new coach is now expected to turn things around for the "Foals".
Ole Werner Prefers to Enjoy "His Free Time"
However, a prominent name is already out of the running. According to "Bild", Ole Werner is not available for the coaching position at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
For the 38-year-old German, the timing is reportedly not right; he is currently enjoying "his free time", according to the tabloid.
Last season, with RB Leipzig and the Austrian trio Xaver Schlager (now Nottingham), Nicolas Seiwald and Christoph Baumgartner (both RB Leipzig), he secured a return to the Champions League with a third-place finish. Werner continues to receive his hefty salary, which would also have made the financial feasibility questionable.
While the long-term succession at Gladbach thus remains open, at least the interim solution is set with assistant coach Jan-Moritz Lichte.
Further candidates for the vacant coaching position are said to be Christian Eichner (most recently KSC), Horst Steffen (most recently SV Werder Bremen), Alexander Blessin (most recently FC St. Pauli) and Bo Henriksen (most recently FSV Mainz 05).
