TSG 1899 Hoffenheim returns home from their cup duel with Holstein Kiel with several setbacks in tow.

In addition to a bitter defeat in the penalty shootout, Austrian head coach Christian Ilzer's team, as well as the two ÖFB players Alexander Prass and Patrick Wimmer, also suffered personnel setbacks on Wednesday evening.

Valentin Gendrey suffered a serious injury and will be out for months for the Sinsheimers.

Diagnosis: Fibula Fracture

The Frenchman (26) had been in the starting XI for the first time this season.

Gendrey played until the 33rd minute before the right-back remained injured after a tackle with Kiel's Leon Parduzi.

Gendrey received treatment for minutes and ultimately had to leave the field in tears.

Meanwhile, TSG has made the diagnosis public – Gendrey suffered a fibula fracture and will be sidelined long-term.

Schicker assures "full support"

Sporting Director Andreas Schicker says: "The injury is a severe setback for Vale and affects all of us at the club personally. We stand by him, and he will receive our full support. We all wish him a speedy recovery."

Already last season, the defender, who was signed from Lecce in summer 2024, was out for months with an ankle fracture.
